The series The End of the F *** ing World was named the best drama series on Friday evening at the BAFTA Awards, which took place digitally due to the corona crisis.
Naomi Ackie, who had an important supporting role in the series of Channel 4 and Netflix, was also awarded. Chernobyl (HBO) won in the category of best miniseries and best actor (Jared Harris), while the series had fourteen nominations.
In the category of best entertainment program, John de Mol’s Voice UK was nominated, but the award went to Strictly Come Dancing.
The award show, which was supposed to take place in May, was broadcast from a studio and hosted by Richard Ayoade. Winners expressed their acceptance speech via Zoom or a previously recorded speech was broadcast.
Idris Elba was awarded a special award for his career and commitment to diversity. “I want to open the door for others,” said the actor. “I am positive about the future.” He also spoke briefly about his infection with the coronavirus. “I feel that I got off well. I am grateful that I am alive.”
