Under his direction, Sean Connery and Roger Moore taught as 007 villains the fear – now Lewis Gilbert died at the age of 97 years. The bond producers are mourning for a “real gentleman”.
British James Bond director Lewis Gilbert is dead. 007 producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli shared this on the official website of the film series. Gilbert was 97 years old.
“With great sadness we have learned of the death of our dear friend Lewis Gilbert,” it said in the message. Gilbert was a “true gentleman” who had made “a tremendous contribution” to the British film industry. His 007 films are “classics of the series”.
Gilbert directed three Bond films: “One lives only twice” from 1967 with Sean Connery and “The Spy Who Loved Me” and “Moonraker – Top Secret” starring Roger Moore in the late 1970s. Among his greatest successes also included the film classic “Alfie” with Michael Caine in the lead role.
