This year, Billie Eilish, Lewis Capaldi and rapper Dave are the big winners of the Brit Awards, the most important British music prizes. It was the 40th time this year that the prizes were awarded.
Eilish won the prize for ‘international female solo artist’. Capaldi went home with two prizes, one for ‘song of the year’, for his song Someone you loved, and the one for ‘best new artist’. The Psychodrama album by rapper Dave was awarded the prize for ‘best album of the year’.
Besides the fact that the artists were among the winners, all three also performed during the award ceremony. Capaldi performed with the number for which he won the prize. He did so after the opening speech by comedian and presenter of the Jack Whitehall event. In his speech, Whitehall stood still with presenter Caroline Flack, who died on Saturday.
Eilish sang her recently released No time to die , the title song of the new James Bond movie.
Dave made a rather politically charged statement during the event, calling British Prime Minister Boris Jonson a “real racist.”
