Jesse Alexander will take over the American Gods showrunner chair for season 2, assisted by Neil Gaiman himself.
At the end of last year, a few months after the broadcast of the first season and the formalization of the upcoming arrival of a second, American Godsshowrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green announced their departure. Fortunately, today The Hollywood Reporter announces that a replacement has been recruited by Starz: Jesse Alexander.
An encouraging new start
The man, who has already worked with Bryan Fuller on Hannibal and Star Trek: Discovery, should have what it takes to take over and including the strong visual identity of American Gods . Especially since he will be supported in his mission by Neil Gaiman himself, the author of the novel from which the series is drawn. The latter also said: ” I am delighted that Jesse is a showrunner. He loves and understands the book, he loves and understands TV shows, and is dedicated to making the future American Gods seasons as beautiful and successful and unique as they can be. ”
Still according to the media, several experienced showrunners would have refused the job before the arrival of Jesse Alexander, who will have to cope with the wishes of the production company Fremantle who decided to replace Green and Fuller. According to THR sources, the two men were also reportedly rejected by Gaiman, dissatisfied with the direction too far removed from the novel they intended to take in season 2.
American Gods: a birth and a difficult childhood
For the record, actress Gillian Anderson has also left the ship before the arrival of season 2, which should not land before 2019. The hardest seems so behind the series, but nothing is still completely done as long as season 2 will not be on our screens.
