The Israeli actress will play the role of Irena Sendler, who saved thousands of children from Nazi atrocities.
Gal Gadot, known for her role as Wonder Woman in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will play the title role in the historical thriller Irena Sendler. This film will be dedicated to the life of a Polish activist who during the Holocaust saved two and a half thousand Jewish children from death.
The film tells about the participation of Sendler in the activities of the Polish underground during the Second World War. Together with dozens of other people, a brave woman secretly took the children out of the Warsaw ghetto, helping them get fake documents and find a family. In 1943, Sendler was arrested by the Gestapo. Despite the torture, she never revealed any information about the children. Subsequently, Sendler was sentenced to death, but she was saved.
The production of the painting will be done by Warner Bros. together with the company Pilot Wave, which was recently founded by Gadot herself and her husband Yaron Versano. Also, Mark Platt will act as a producer.
As producers, we want to promote life-affirming stories. Pilot Wave will create content dedicated to the experience of unique people. We want our projects to be soulful and inspiring,
– say Gadot and Versano.
The script for “Irena Sendler” will be written by Justin Gilmer, who had previously worked on the Harry Haft film – this is another Holocaust-style film, scheduled for 2020. In addition, Gilmer participated in the creation of many series, including “In the Desert of Death” and “Hundred.”
