“Deadly Shooting in Fort Worth Claims 3 Lives, Leaves 8 Injured; Investigation Underway”
Gunfire erupted just before midnight on Monday in Fort Worth, Texas, resulting in a tragic incident that left at least three people dead and eight others wounded, according to the Fort Worth Police Department. The victims include ten adults and one minor, as confirmed by the police’s homicide unit.
The shooting took place in a parking lot located in the Como neighborhood’s Horne Street area, where officers discovered multiple individuals with gunshot wounds. Some victims were transported to local hospitals by private vehicles, while others received medical attention from ambulance services. Regrettably, one victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
During a news conference, Fort Worth Police Captain Shawn Murray stated, “We had a shooting. It appears that we had multiple victims that were shot. Probably three of them were transported to Harris Southwest… Five more victims were transported to John Peter Smith.”
Authorities have not yet determined the motive behind the shooting, whether it is gang-related, a domestic dispute, or something else.
At the time of the incident, a large crowd was present in the neighborhood, as it was the Como community’s annual celebration on July 3. The sound of fireworks could be heard intermittently in the background during the police briefing.
Eyewitness Mike Valle described the sudden chaos, saying, “Everybody was just having fun and then you just heard gunfire, and everybody started running away.” Valle’s friends had previously warned him about the potential for the event to escalate.
This area of Fort Worth has experienced violence on the same date in the past. In 2021, during an argument near a car wash, eight people were shot and a child was injured after gunfire broke out in the same vicinity.
Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker expressed her condolences, tweeting, “My heart breaks for the victims, their loved ones, and the entire Como community that works to build positivity and celebration in their community and our city.”
The incident in Fort Worth adds to the alarming number of mass shootings in the country this year, with at least 345 documented by the Gun Violence Archive, which defines a mass shooting as an incident involving four or more individuals being shot (excluding the shooter).
Meanwhile, another investigation is underway in Philadelphia, where a mass shooting occurred on Monday evening, resulting in five deaths and two children being injured. A suspect has been apprehended, and authorities recovered a bulletproof vest, an AR-15 style rifle, and a handgun.
In response to the recent incidents, President Joe Biden released a statement condemning gun violence and urging legislative action. He called for measures such as banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, implementing safe gun storage requirements, ending gun manufacturers’ immunity from liability, and enacting universal background checks.
This is the hell that Republicans have created for Americans.
