The eighth episode of the Star Wars saga achieved the second best performance in history for its opening weekend at the North American box office.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi has earned $ 220 million in its first three days in theaters in North America, and is directly at the front of the box office.

Only the previous episode of the Star Wars  saga –  The Force Awakens (2015) – had a better performance.

This new installment puts face to face Rey, the heiress of the Jedi, and Kylo Ren, the main threat from the First Order.

The film directed by Rian Johnson ( Looper ) offers to see, for the last time, the actress Carrie Fisher in the role of Princess Leia: the actress died in December 2016, at age 60, some time after finishing the shooting of his scenes.

The Disney group, producer of the film, has already announced the preparation of a “new trilogy” Star Wars , in addition to the episode IX to be released in 2019.

In second place, Ferdinand , a cartoon that follows the adventures of a bull with a big heart across Spain, made its entry into the box office with 13 million dollars collected.

The young musician of Coco , the latest animated film from Pixar Studios, is back in third place with $ 10 million ($ 150.8 million since its release).

In fourth place, the sentimental comedy Wonder with Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay, tells the story of the schooling of a child with a face deformed by the disease. It brought in $ 5.4 million over the weekend and $ 109.2 million in five weeks.

The superhero alliance of DC Comics  Justice League retrograde in fifth position with $ 4.2 million. The group consisting of Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and Flash (Ezra Miller) has accumulated 219.5 million since its release five weeks ago.
