Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the eighth episode of George Lucas’ famous galaxy saga, has garnered $ 450.8 million in worldwide revenue for this first weekend of operation, announced its Disney producer and distributor Monday.
The new album, directed by American Rian Johnson, has generated $ 220 million in North America since its release Friday, and 230.8 million in the rest of the world.
This performance makes Star Wars: The Last Jedi the fifth most lucrative movie in history for its first weekend of operation. Fast & Furious 8, released in 2017, holds the record with nearly $ 530 million in revenue, ahead of the previous episode of the Star Wars saga, The Awakening of the Force.
With $ 220 million in revenue in the United States and Canada, Star Wars: The Last Jedimarks the second best North American box office performance for an opening weekend, again ranking behind its prequel, Le Awakening of the Force.
