The American Serena Williams overcame the Russian Vitalia Diatchenko, to access the second round of Roland Garros, where she aspires to add, at 37, her twenty-fourth Grand Slam.
The youngest of the Williams ended up winning by 2-6, 6-1 and 6-0 to the 82 of the world, specialist in indoor tournaments that this season had not passed two rounds on clay.
“I’m very happy because at first I was very scared, it was not easy today, I need training,” Serena said on the track.
Williams will be measured by a third round position to the winner of the match between the Japanese Kurumi Nara, from the previous phase, and the Slovenian Dalila Jakupovic.
The American is pursuing her third victory in Paris, which would mean her 24 Grand Slam that would equal the Australian Margaret Court.
