R. Kelly (55) is under permanent guard in his cell in New York to prevent the R&B singer from committing suicide. His lawyer, Jennifer Bonjean, told CNN. Earlier this week, the artist was sentenced to 30 years in prison in the abuse case in New York.
“The irony is that permanent surveillance for people who are not suicidal actually does more harm”
Jennifer says that to the best of her knowledge the singer is not suicidal. R. Kelly would have been afraid to come under permanent surveillance. “The irony is that permanent surveillance for people who are not suicidal actually does more damage,” the lawyer says. The choice for this form of surveillance would have been made because it concerns a well-known person, CNN writes .
R. Kelly was found guilty last year of, among other things, leading an organization that aimed to abuse women and girls. The singer of ‘I Believe I Can Fly’ has been accused of sexual misconduct for years. R. Kelly has always denied all allegations dating back to the 1990s.
