Director George Miller begins in June with the shooting of Furiosa, the prequel to his film Mad Max: Fury Road from 2015. The film is included in the Australian state of New South Wales, the filmmaker had last weekend know . It will be the largest film project made in the country to date.
According to Australian media, around 850 people from the surrounding area can work on the film set and the project will contribute approximately 350 million Australian dollars (more than 226 million euros) to the local economy.
Anya Taylor-Joy plays the title role in Furiosa. The The Queen’s Gambit actress takes over from Charlize Theron, who played the character in Fury Road .
Fury Road is part of the Mad Max series that began in 1979 with Mel Gibson in the role of Max, a police officer in a post-apocalyptic world where motorcycle gangs threaten to take over.
Although Theron is completely behind Miller’s plans to continue telling Furiosa’s story, she told The Hollywood Reporter last year that it would be a bitter pill to hand over the role. “It’s definitely a little bit heartbreaking. I love that character so much, and I’m grateful that I was part of her creation. She’s someone I’ve always remembered.”
Furiosa is due to hit theaters in June 2023. It was previously announced that Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II can also be seen in the film.
