Natalie Portman has left the production of Days of Abandonment for “personal and unforeseen” reasons . As a result of the actress’ departure, HBO has pulled the plug on the project, Variety reports .
In April , it became clear that Portman had been recruited for the title, a film adaptation of Elena Ferrante’s 2002 book The Days of Abandonment , who also wrote the book behind hit series My Brilliant Friend .
The Days of Abandonment is about a woman who, after 15 years of marriage, is suddenly abandoned by her husband and is left alone with their two children.
The film would be written, directed and co-produced by Maggie Betts. She made her film debut in 2010 with the documentary The Carrier , which she made based on her own experiences of her fight against AIDS in South Africa.
