Director Mel Gibson will make a remake of the classic The Wild Bunch by director Sam Peckinpah from 1969. It is not yet known who will play the leading roles.
Warner Bros. Mel Gibson has asked to direct the western and write to the script, The Hollywood Reporter knows.
It will be the sixth film that Gibson makes as a director. His last work was the award-winning war drama Hacksaw Ridge from 2016.
The Wild Bunch, with at that time William Holden and Ernest Borgnine in the leading roles, was about a group of criminals in the wake of the Wild West.
The epic is due to the fast installation as a classic in the action genre. The film also stood out because of the realistic and violent way in which the violence was portrayed.
