An Indian medical student was crowned Miss World on Saturday in China’s seaside resort city of Sanya, making India the country’s most successful contest, tied with Venezuela.
Manushi Chhillar is the sixth Indian woman to be crowned in the history of this beauty contest, created in 1951. She follows in the footsteps of Bollywood actresses Priyanka Chopra and Aishwarya Rai.
Her two runners-up are Stephanie Hill of England and Andrea Meza of Mexico.
“Thank you all for your love and support,” tweeted the 20-year-old winner.
The victory of Manushi Chhillar soon became one of the most commented topics on the social network in India.
She was crowned by the previous winner, Stephanie del Valle, from Puerto Rico.
