Cate Blanchett gets the lead in the American TV series Mrs. America. The television series is based on the life story of the American writer, lawyer and conservative activist Phyllis Schlafly. For the two-time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett, it is her first role on American television, reports The Hollywood Repoter. The series contains nine episodes and can be seen on FX.
Blanchett plays the role of Phyllis Schlafly, who died in 2016 at the age of 92. She was also called ‘the mother of the American conservative movement’. Schlafly opposed feminism since the 1970s.
FX CEO John Landgraf calls Cate Blanchett one of the greatest actors of our time. “We have no doubt that Cate is the perfect actor to play the role of Phyllis Schlafly, one of the most polarizing and complicated figures of the seventies.”
The Australian Cate Blanchett (49) is one of the people behind Time’s Up, an initiative of women working in Hollywood against sexual harassment. The Australian actress played in countless films. In 2005 she received an Oscar for her supporting role in The Aviator and in 2014 for the lead role in Blue Jasmine. In 2008 she got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
