Laurence Fishburne, the interpreter of Morpheus, the mentor of Neo (Keanu Reeves), will not be in Matrix 4 . The bad news was announced by the actor himself in an interview with New York Magazine .
“I was not invited,” he confides with a touch of bitterness. “Maybe I’ll use this time to write another play (Fishburne already wrote a first play in the 1990s, note) . I wish them lots of good things. I hope it will be good.”
Asked what this role represents for him, the actor adds: “It is surely the role for which I will be remembered the most, which is great; but it is not the only thing for which we are will remember me, which is even better. With him I have Darth Vader and Obi-Wan, Bruce Lee and Muhammad Ali and kung fu. “
Release scheduled for March 30, 2022
Directed by Lana Wachowski, Matrix 4 will be released in theaters on March 30, 2022. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity) will be back. They will be surrounded by elders of the saga (Jada Pinkett Smith) and new faces (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris). Hugo Weaving , the interpreter of Agent Smith, indicated that he would not resume his role, due to incompatibility of schedule. Filming, interrupted due to the pandemic, has resumed in Berlin.
Keanu Reeves explained last June in the columns of Empire magazine why he agreed to appear in Matrix 4 : “Lana Wachowski wrote a beautiful screenplay and a great story that resonated with me. That’s the only reason. Working with her again was great. The shooting was very beautiful. The story tells very deep things and I think we can get a lot out of it. “
