The 81-year-old actress and activist was arrested during a demonstration in Washington DC.

Actress and activist Jane Fonda was arrested in Washington, DC during a protest against the oil industry.

The 81-year-old woman, who was once called Hanoi Jane for her protests against the Vietnam War, was arrested Friday for “illegally demonstrating on the east front of the United States Capitol,” according to a police spokeswoman for the United States Capitol.

Fonda was one of 16 people arrested and accused of overcrowding and obstruction.

The Barbarella star announced that he would join the protesters in the capital of the United States on Thursday, and declared: “I will be in the Capitol every Friday, rain or shine, inspired and emboldened by the incredible movement that our young people have created.”

“I can no longer wait and let our elected officials ignore, and worse, empower, the industries that are destroying our planet for profit. We cannot continue defending this. ”
