The Emmy award that director Dan Reed received on Saturday for his controversial documentary Leaving Neverland has led to disbelief at the Jackson heirs. The family calls the prize ‘a farce’, says a Jackson spokesperson. This is reported by The Huffington Post.
“A film that is completely fictional is honored in the non-fiction category”
“A film that is completely fictional is honored in the non-fiction category, which is just complete madness. There is no evidence to support this one-sided story and, moreover, the docu is made in secret. No other person besides the two Key players have been consulted or interviewed, “said the Jackson spokesperson.
Director Reed had a very different view of the case and thanked Wade Robson and James Safechuck for receiving the prize. Robson and Safechuck both claim to have been sexually abused by Jackson when they were minors. “This documentary could not have been made without the incredible courage and determination of Wade, James and their families. This is one of the first times we have been able to highlight sexual abuse of children and that was not an easy story to tell. I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart. “
