On a small scale, Instagram will start this week with the ability to show NFTs in the app.
A limited number of makers and collectors of NFTs in the United States will be given the opportunity to showcase their creations and purchases on Instagram. The first test starts this week.
Adam Mosseri of Instagram explains in a video that there is tension between the decentralized technology and Instagram as a centralized platform, but that Instagram can make web3 technology accessible to a large audience.
Instagram suggests starting small in order to learn from its users. There is no cost to display or share an NFT on Instagram.
NFTs on Instagram 🎉
This week we’re beginning to test digital collectibles with a handful of US creators and collectors who will be able to share NFTs on Instagram. There will be no fees associated with posting or sharing a digital collectible on IG.
