Hostiles, at the cinema on March 14, is preceded by excellent American critics. This Western with Christian Bale, Rosamund Pike, Wes Studi directed by Scott Cooper (The Wings of Wrath, Strictly Criminal) may well be the best thing ever since Clint Eastwood’s Merciless. Here is a featurette presenting the different characters who compete in this hard western.
The Pitch: In 1892, Joseph Blocker, a former war hero who became a prison guard, was forced to escort Yellow Hawk, the dying Cheyenne warlord, to his former tribal lands. Shortly after taking the road, they meet Rosalee Quaid. Only survivor of the massacre of her family by the Comanches, the traumatized young woman joins them in their journey. Shaped by suffering, violence and death, they have endless reserves of anger and mistrust of others. On the perilous road that will take them from New Mexico to Montana, the former enemies will have to show solidarity to survive the environment and the Comanche tribes they meet.
