“That was not good. That was not good at all.” These were the last words of camerawoman Halyna Hutchins who was accidentally shot and killed by actor Alec Baldwin on the set of the film Rust. The ‘Los Angeles Times’ states that based on interviews with fourteen crew members, e-mails and text messages.
“Halyna Was My Friend”
Moments before, Alec had been preparing for a shooting scene during rehearsal. He practiced pulling his pistol from its holster. That weapon contained one real bullet instead of just blanks. Halyna, 42, was fatally wounded by that bullet.
According to the LA Times, shortly after being hit, the camerawoman stumbled backwards and fell into the arms of a crew member. At that moment, according to the newspaper, the blood flowed from her chest. Meanwhile, director Joel Souza also fell to the ground injured. “Doctor!”, someone would have called at that moment. She died just hours after Halyna was hit. Souza was not seriously injured and was able to go home after treatment.
On Saturday, Alec spoke to the press for the first time about the shooting incident on the film set. “Halyna was my friend,” he said of the bond with his colleague. He is said to be in regular contact with Hutchins’ family and said “support them where I can”.
