British-American actor John Mahoney died at the age of 77. Mahoney is best known for the hit series Frasier, in which he played the father of Frasier and Niles.
The 77-year-old actor died Sunday in a hospital in Chicago. Mahoney died from the consequences of cancer.
Mahoney played in many films and TV series. He also played in theater pieces and won a Tony award. However, he will be most remembered as Martin Crane, the father of Frasier and Niles in the comedy series Frasier . The series, which has eleven seasons, was broadcast between 1993 and 2004.
For his role in Frasier , Mahoney received a Screen Actors Guild award. He was also nominated twice for an Emmy and twice he qualified for a Golden Globe.
