“No one is talking about canceling this movie that honors a man who raped children”
Recently it was announced that Graham King is going to make a movie about the life of Michael Jackson. He previously directed the biopic Bohemian Rhapsody about the British band Queen. The role of The King of Pop is played by his own cousin, Jaafar Jackson.
“No one is talking about canceling this film that celebrates a man who raped children,” Reed wrote in an op-ed for the British newspaper. He says the lack of media outcry at the biopic’s announcement shows that “Jackson’s seduction is still alive,” even though the singer has been gone since 2009.
“It seems like the press, his fans, and a steady, older demographic that grew up with and adored Jackson can put aside his unhealthy relationship with kids and just enjoy the music,” he continued.
The director wonders how his colleague is going to portray the singer’s alleged child abuse, if he were to do that at all. “By evading Jackson’s predilection for sleeping with young boys, you are sending this message to millions of victims of child sexual abuse: If a pedophile is rich and popular enough, society will forgive him.”
