“I suppressed who I really was to fit into the straitjacket of sexy female pop star and actress that others – such as stylists, members of my team and even fans – had chosen for me. An image I never really identified with,” she says. demi. “Now I realize it’s much more important to be your true self than to suppress it because things like that (like an overdose, ed.) happen if you don’t.”
Identifying as non-binary is possible when people see and respect you, says the 28-year-old. “We must continue to have these conversations about gender with an open heart and an open mind so that together we can figure out how to become a more united species on this planet.”
