Recently, Cynthia Nixon, who played one of four girlfriends in Sex and the City, was interviewed by the Radio Times, where she assessed the series from a modern perspective.
Nixon concluded that much of the show, which ran from 1998 to 2004, was outdated and “too white.”
Many things in this series already seem outdated. And, of course, it turned out to be too white, we thought about it during the filming. But in some ways it was even revolutionary, for example, the age of the characters. When we started filming, we were all over 30 and with each new season we were getting older. Sex and the City showed the world that women are not turned on by marriage and can be deeply interested in sex,
– said the performer of the role of Miranda Hobbs.
After filming the series, Cynthia became a political activist and even ran for Governor of New York in 2018. She also actively supports the LGBT community, and her eldest son is transgender.
Recently, Cynthia noted that her son was offended by J.K. Rowling’s position regarding transgender women.
He grew up on Harry Potter. Our whole family read it. In these books, it seems, on the contrary, they protect people who are different from everyone. And now Joan focuses on a group of people who are clearly different and doesn’t recognize their right to exist. It’s just … It’s really weird. I know that she supports feminism, but I do not understand her position,
– said Cynthia.
