Broadway Actor John Deyle, Known for ‘Annie,’ ‘Camelot,’ and ‘Urinetown,’ Passes Away at 68
John Deyle, a talented Broadway actor who graced the stages of several iconic musicals, has sadly passed away at the age of 68. Deyle’s wife, Rebecca Paller, announced that he died on June 22 at their home in Mount Kisco, New York, following a battle with esophageal cancer.
Deyle’s theatrical career included appearances in four Broadway productions, where he showcased his versatile talent. He made his Broadway debut in 1979 in the beloved musical “Annie,” playing various roles such as Louis Howe, Fred McCracken, and Bert Healy. Deyle continued his Broadway journey with notable performances in the 1980 revival of “Camelot” alongside Richard Burton, as well as in the acclaimed musical “Urinetown” from 2001 to 2004, where he portrayed the character of Senator Fipp. Additionally, he had roles in “Footloose” and the off-Broadway production of “Pageant.”

Apart from his Broadway accomplishments, Deyle made memorable appearances on television. He became known for his portrayal of the bumbling Mr. Science during the first season of “Late Night With Conan O’Brien.” His comedic talent also extended to over 100 television commercials, where he promoted various products such as Skippy Peanut Butter, Toblerone Chocolate, Hoover Vacuum Cleaners, Kraft Macaroni & Cheese, and Just for Men Hair Color.
Deyle’s acting career extended beyond the stage and screen. He had roles in films like “Wall Street,” “Before and After,” “One True Thing,” and “Tio Papi.” He also made guest appearances on popular television shows including “Law & Order,” “Law & Order: SVU,” “The Good Wife,” “One Life to Live,” and “All My Children.”
Born on July 6, 1954, in Rochester, New York, Deyle pursued his passion for performing by earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. He later moved to New York to fulfill his dream of gracing the Broadway stage.
John Deyle is survived by his wife Rebecca Paller, their son Oleg, his sister Kathryn, brother-in-law Ben, aunt Marylin, nephews Stephen, Brian, and Jay, and niece Erica.
