Serial production is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2022.
The British company Fering Technologies presented a hybrid SUV called ‘Pioneer’, which has a range of 7,000 kilometers, reports Auto Express magazine.
Since Fering was founded by Ben Scott-Geddes, a former Ferrari and McLaren engineer, the company uses many supercar-derived weight-saving tactics when building its own vehicles. For example, the Pioneer bodywork is made with fabric panels . The company insists that this material has better insulating properties and withstands the damage that the vehicle could suffer in off-road circumstances. Thanks to this particularity, Pioneer is a fairly light car for its dimensions, weighing around 1,500 kilos.

The vehicle’s powertrain comprises two electric motors (one for each axle) and a lithium titanium oxide battery, designed to withstand extreme weather conditions. This system is backed by an additional 800 cubic centimeter diesel engine, which provides a maximum range of 7,000 kilometers . The wheels are 22.5 inches in diameter and will accept a standard size truck tire.
In addition, Pioneer can be adapted to different types of fuel . There are plans for an ethanol engine for Brazil and a hydrogen fuel cell version for Asia. Serial production of the van is scheduled to begin in the UK in the first half of 2022 .
