The police of the Indian capital Delhi has arrested the most popular terrorist in the country. Abdul Subhan Qureshi (46) is called the Osama bin Laden of India and would be the brain behind some twenty bombings on July 26, 2008 in the West Indian city of Ahmedabad. More than 50 people were killed. There were a few hundred wounded.
A police spokesperson announced at a press conference that Qureshi had gone into hiding in Nepal with false documents in recent years. He would have returned to India to revive the Mujahedin movement.
Bomb expert
The mujahedeen is an organization that aims to establish an Islamic state in India, where mainly Hindus live. Apart from the bombings in Ahmedabad, this movement would have been responsible for many more attacks in India.
Qureshi is considered a bomb expert. In the 90s he worked in the Indian IT sector. He was recruited in 1998 by the banned organization Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), which is seen as the forerunner of the Mujahedin movement.
Qureshi would also have been involved in terrorist attacks in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.
