Beyoncé was also absent this year at the famous fashion event in The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Jay-Z decided to surprise his wife with a vacation before the two started their joint tour.
The couture outfit of the singer was already tailor-made by designer Peter Dundas, but was not worn by Beyoncé, Entertainment Tonight reports.
“Jay thought she could use some peace after her two epic performances at Coachella,” said a source. “They are going through a couple of heavy months of traveling and performing, so just a little bit of quality time alone seemed like a good idea.”
Last year Beyoncé was not present at the Met Gala because of her pregnancy of twins Rumi and Sir.
With Gala
Monday evening the annual Met Gala took place in New York. Several celebrities appeared on the red carpet dressed in couture clothing. Among others Doutzen Kroes, Rihanna, Rita Ora, Ariana Grande, Bella Hadid, George and Amal Clooney and Anne Hataway were present.
The theme of this year was Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & the Catholic Imagination. This resulted in many impressive outfits, including that of Rihanna as a modern ‘fashion parade’. The aim of the gala is to raise money for the costume institute of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The presentation was, as always, in the hands of Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. She was assisted this time by Amal Clooney, fashion designer Donatella Versace and Rihanna.
