Well-known British artists plan to wear black at the upcoming British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) in support of the Time’s Up campaign against sexual harassment.
Emma Watson, Daisy Ridley, Keira Knightley and Emma Thompson are among the actresses who plan to take action, inspired by a movement similar to the Golden Globes in Hollywood last month.
A letter sent to guests expected at the ceremony on February 18 emphasizes that wearing black allows for a “strong, united and simple statement” to support victims of sexual harassment or assault.
When the award finalists were announced last month, the ceremony’s organizers said the troubling revelations about powerful men in the industry should serve as a driver for real and lasting change.
The ceremony will be hosted by Joanna Lumley at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
