Apple introduces the iPhone 14
This year, the Cupertino company brings back the Plus model, introducing a larger device than the iPhone 14.
Apple has presented this Wednesday its new iPhone 14 range, which consists of four models: iPhone 14, Plus, Pro and Pro Max. These last two arrive with the greatest redesign and technical leap compared to their predecessors. However, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, the most basic of the family, due to their characteristics, could be considered devices similar to the iPhone 13, with some very discreet improvements.
This year, the Cupertino company brings back the Plus model, whose biggest difference from the first on the list is the size of its screen ( 6.7 inches ), since the iPhone 14 retains the 6.1-inch one. Contrary to what was speculated, both maintain the front notch and the Super Retina XDR panel, HDR10 and Dolby Vision certification, with a maximum brightness that reaches 1,200 nits, a resolution of 2,778 x 1,284 pixels and a standard refresh rate of 60Hz.
Both of these models feature a scratch-protective ceramic cover that Apple says is “stronger than any glass” and are made of “aerospace-grade” aluminum. The company claims that the battery of these devices has the “longest duration ever” , in addition to fast charging and MagSafe magnetic charging, introduced last year.
A15 Bionic chip
As for its processor, the A15 Bionic chip , it is the same as the one in the iPhone 13 Pro, with some slight adjustments: a new internal design for greater thermal efficiency and the power needed to adapt to the latest features and games, and offer complete fluency. The improvements in this section go hand in hand with the arrival of the new iOS 16 operating system.
Perhaps the most significant changes compared to the previous generation are in the photographic section. The 12-megapixel front camera has autofocus (for the first time on an iPhone) and a larger aperture, while the rear is dual and is equipped with a 12-megapixel main sensor. Its wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle sensors promise improvements in image processing , especially in low light. Video recording adds Action mode , which stabilizes moving images for better capture.
Another notable change is the removal of the physical SIM card tray in the US, where connectivity will be via eSIM only. Also, Apple introduced its Emergency SOS satellite connectivity service to send emergency messages in the absence of a mobile network or Wi-Fi in the event of an accident. This feature will launch in November and will be free for 2 years for iPhone 14 in Canada and the US.
The starting price for the iPhone 14 is $799 and $899 for the Plus version. They will be available in five colors (black, blue, white, purple and red) and will officially go on sale on September 16 and October 7, respectively.
iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max: great leap in redesign
Unlike the most basic of this line, the Pro and Pro Max models reflect greater evolution, both in terms of ‘hardware’ and design.
With thinner borders, brighter screens and a larger activity area, Apple has removed the famous notch and added the so-called ‘Dynamic Island’ , an innovative area that changes size and can fluidly expand into different shapes using animations and transitions. “It is a magical mixture of ‘hardware’ and ‘software’ that shows you the song that is playing, sports scores, FaceTime calls and much more, without interrupting what you are doing,” explains the US company.

As a second great novelty, the A16 Bionic processor appears , the most powerful iPhone chipset to date, which makes these two ‘smartphones’ the best of the company. In addition, within the photographic improvements, a great leap has been made with the new 48-megapixel wide-angle camera , which promises a high level of detail.
With base prices of $999 and $1,099, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will be on pre-sale starting September 9, while the official sale will start on September 16.
