American actor and filmmaker Sean Penn and two colleagues have left Ukraine like many refugees from the beleaguered country: on foot and with only the most necessary luggage, the Huffington Post reports.
The filmmaker and his colleagues left their car on the side of the road on Monday and walked for miles to the Polish border. Penn shared a photo of a long line of cars on Twitter.
Myself & two colleagues walked miles to the Polish border after abandoning our car on the side of the road. Almost all the cars in this photo carry women & children only, most without any sign of luggage, and a car their only possession of value. pic.twitter.com/XSwCDgYVSH

“Almost all the cars in this photo carry only women & children, most with no sign of luggage, and a car their only possession of value,” Penn wrote.
Penn met with the Deputy Prime Minister, journalists and military personnel and was commended for his work by the Ukrainian president.
“Sean Penn shows the courage that many others, especially Western politicians lack,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s office wrote on Facebook .
“The director has come to Kiev especially to capture all the events currently taking place in Ukraine and to tell the world the truth about Russia’s invasion of our country.”
On February 24, the actor and director attended the press briefing held by Zelensky at his office in Kiev, as shown in the photo.
Penn was also in Ukraine in late November to work on the project, which is being produced by Vice Studios. He has been involved in multiple international humanitarian and peace initiatives over the years.
