Emma Watson would have been asked to play a role in the remake of the Little Women book filming. The actress replaces Emma Stone, who had to leave the project because of too busy a schedule.
Sources report to Variety that it is not yet known what role the 28-year-old Watson will play.
In any case, it will be one of the four sisters who form the main roles in the story that took place during the American Civil War in the nineteenth century. It is intended that the production of the film starts in September.
Previously, the names of actors Meryl Streep, Laura Dern, Saoirse Ronan, Timothy Chalamet and Florence Pugh were already confirmed. Negotiations with Stone were not finished because she is too busy with the promotion tour of her upcoming film The Favorite.
It would not be the first time that both actresses were cast for the same role. Previously, Stone was the replacement choice of Watson in La La Land, when the Harry Potter actress could not combine her job with the recordings of Beauty and the Beast. Stone was rewarded for her acting performance in the musical film with an Oscar for best actress.
Little Women was filmed three times before
Greta Gerwig will direct Little Women. At the last edition of the Oscar, she was nominated for the best direction with the film Lady Bird, in which also Ronan and Chamalet were shown.
The Little Women remake was announced in 2016. After the success of Lady Bird, Gerwig and production company Sony agreed that Gerwig will direct Little Women.
The book by Louisa May Alcott from 1869 was filmed for the first time in 1918. In 1933 a new film was released, with Katherine Hepburn in one of the main roles. Susan Sarandon and Winona Ryder played the leading roles in the version released in 1994.
