True, it is possible that this became possible thanks to a new computational algorithm.
According to data released recently, the action movie Underground 6 with Ryan Reynolds in the title role got the title of the most watched movie in Netflix history. It is reported that for four weeks on air, Michael Bay’s big-budget film was watched from 83 million accounts. Previously, the Bird Box thriller with Sandra Bullock (80 million) held the palm in this regard.
It is worth mentioning that Netflix statistical calculations on the audience of their own projects do not pass external verification. Moreover, recently, the Netflix algorithm counts as a viewer anyone who watched at least two minutes of a movie or a show – previously such a threshold was 70% of the total timing. According to the service, the new two-minute metric is more objective in determining which content is interesting to viewers. On the other hand, Netflix still cannot calculate how many times a particular video product has been viewed from the same account.
It is also interesting that Netflix did not disclose such figures about the audience of such films as The Irishman Martin Scorsese and The Marriage Story Noah Baumbaka. Recall that both of these paintings were among the nominees for the Oscar following the results of last year. At the same time, it became known that the first full-length animated film Netflix “Klaus” was watched by 40 million users over the first 28 days on the air – in this category, this picture also claims to be Oscar.
