Madeleine Mantock, Melonie Diaz and Sarah Jeffery have won the lead roles in the new version of Charmed. Also the new episodes revolve around three new sisters who discover that they have magical powers.
The series, which is made more than twenty years after the start of the original version, has no starting date yet. The sisters have different names and the new series follows a different story line, as was announced on Monday.
Mantock ( The Tomorrow People ) plays oldest sister Macy, a geneticist who is described as practical, driven and brilliant. Diaz ( Elementary ) plays middle sister Mel, a lesbian who works as an activist for different purposes. The youngest sister, Madison, is played by Jeffery ( Shades of Blue ) and is a young student.
The protagonists of the original series, which were made from 1998 to 2006, have already reacted to the new version. They are not involved in the new production.
Holly Marie Combs, who was seen as Piper, felt that the original cast and crew should be involved. Shannen Doherty, who was seen in the first seasons as Prue, was slightly more positive and hoped that a new generation would enjoy the series in the same way.
