The latest Pepsi Zero Sugar commercial showcases the much-anticipated return of the beloved character Derek Zoolander.
Ben Stiller brings back the character of Derek Zoolander, the male model, in a Pepsi Zero Sugar commercial during the Super Bowl. In the ad, he utters the iconic line, “This is really, really ridiculously good-tasting.” This is a nod to his role in both the 2001 movie “Zoolander” and its 2016 sequel, where he played the titular character and became a fan favorite.
In addition to his portrayal of Derek Zoolander, Stiller also takes on multiple other roles in the commercial that will be instantly recognizable to movie enthusiasts everywhere, even though they aren’t from his previous works.
In the advertisement, one of Ben Stiller’s characters pops the question to a woman played by Rachel Dratch, known for her work on “Saturday Night Live.” Her excitement gets the better of her, and she ends up losing her balance and accidentally kicking him in the face.
Additionally, the commercial pays homage to Leonardo DiCaprio’s portrayal of a character in “The Revenant” and features an action movie scene reminiscent of the “Avengers” franchise.
In a recent interview with People, Stiller disclosed that there are no plans for a third installment of the “Zoolander” franchise at the moment. This means that this recent Super Bowl advertisement might be the only glimpse of Derek Zoolander that fans will get for a while.
Pepsi Zero Sugar has another advertisement in the Super Bowl, this time featuring Steve Martin, using the same “Great Acting or Great Taste?” tagline. It’s clear that Pepsi didn’t hold back this year and is going all out.
