Sasha Obama, Barack Obama’s 19-year-old daughter, goes viral with a TikTok video. In the images, Sasha can be seen dancing with a number of friends, but the video then disappeared as quickly as it appeared. Willingly or by necessity?
The video shows Sasha Obama and a number of friends she met at university. The gang has fun and performs a dance to the tones of ‘Adderall’, a song by the American rapper Popp Hunna. But although it is an innocent film, the images were immediately removed after they were picked up internationally by the media.
Yet there would be a logical reason why the images were removed again: Sasha reportedly wanted to give up her place in the spotlight herself as soon as possible. Ever since her parents stepped down as president and first lady, Barack and Michelle’s children have wanted to live as normal a life as possible, away from all the personal assistants and Secret Service agents.
Sasha was 10 years old when she moved into the White House, and has absolutely no desire to follow her parents in politics. Sasha loved basketball, but switched to cheerleading in high school. Sasha is now a second-year student and, according to her mother, has an eye for design. She receives a very strict upbringing: no television is watched during the week, she is only allowed to use her mobile phone once a week, they have odd jobs (making the bed, tidying up the room), paying for their sports clubs themselves (two of which one chosen by their parents) and have to write a report on every trip they take. “They are not princesses,” said Michelle earlier. “These are normal rules to follow.”
Sasha will no doubt have learned from the past too. Because it is not the first time that the Obamas have gone viral on social media, even though it was an incident with Sasha’s sister Malia. She was caught with cannabis at a festival in 2016. The photos of that partying Malia Obama also went viral and eventually caused quite a stir in the US.
