The US VTC giant continues its diversification strategy with its Jump brand of electric bicycles.
Already well established in the United States and in testing phase in Berlin since this summer, Jump service will be available next year in Île-de-France. It will go through the Uber application to recover his bike. If a price has not yet been communicated (the VTC service announces that it will be adapted to market rates), in the US, Jump is accessible for two dollars (1.7 euros) the first thirty minutes, then 7 cents dollars the extra minute. The Uber electric bikes will have three speeds and will be able to reach 25 km / h. After Paris, Steve Salom, Uber’s managing director for France, Switzerland and Austria, is targeting the city of Lyon and announcing that the goal is to quickly get into other cities.
Uber clearly wants to become a major player in the electric bike market, and even electric scooters (a first experiment is taking place in the city of Santa Monica). In May, Dara Khosrowshahi, the managing director of the American company said: ” We do not want to limit ourselves to the car. We want to be a platform that will offer door-to-door trips to customers. We also want to work with public transport to integrate their offers in real time in the Uber app or offer the purchase of a transport ticket with his smartphone. ”
