The United States announced on the 6th that it will provide additional military aid of $3.075 billion to Ukraine, which is being invaded by Russia. Japan will also provide 50 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles, which is the largest one-time assistance ever.
The Bradley is highly maneuverable and well-armored, and has been used by the U.S. Army to transport infantry units. The U.S. has so far failed to provide the tanks that Ukraine so desperately wants, making it a de facto alternative. The U.S. military is expected to spend several months training the Ukrainian military to use it.
“It will further enhance the Ukrainian military’s ability to conduct complex operations in all weathers and terrains,” Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense Laura Cooper said at a news conference on Wednesday.
Japan will also provide 18 155mm self-propelled howitzers, ammunition for the High Mobility Rocket Artillery System (HIMARS), and 100 M113 armored personnel carriers.
