A powerful 5.8 magnitude earthquake shook Istanbul on Thursday, causing great panic in the city.
The Presidency of Disaster Management and Emergencies ( AFAD ) said that the quake struck southwestern Istanbul in the Sea of Marmara at 14:00.
According to AFAD, the quake hit a depth of 7 km, but the Kandilli Observatory and the Earthquake Research Institute reported that the depth was 12.6 km.
Earlier Thursday, a magnitude 2.9 earthquake hit near Istanbul at 12:00.
A 4.6 magnitude shaker hit Monday morning southwest of Istanbul.
No causality or damage was immediately reported.
Many social media users have posted videos of the earthquake.
