Georgia State Trooper First Class Chase Redner Fatally Struck While Investigating I-75 Crash
In a tragic incident on Tuesday, Georgia State Trooper First Class Chase Redner lost his life in the line of duty after being struck by a vehicle while investigating a crash on Interstate 75. The incident occurred on I-75 North near Mt. Zion Boulevard in Clayton County, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety. Despite immediate efforts to save him, Trooper Redner succumbed to his injuries at Grady Memorial Hospital.
The fatal accident took place as Redner was examining a previous crash involving a construction worker in the same area, reported FOX5 Atlanta. The driver of the vehicle that struck Trooper Redner is under investigation by the Troop C Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team, and it remains unclear whether charges will be filed against them.
Governor Brian Kemp expressed his devastation at Redner’s sudden and tragic passing, emphasizing the pain felt by the Department of Public Safety family. Redner’s death marks the second loss of a Georgia State trooper in less than a month, following Trooper Jimmy Cenescar’s death in a separate incident on January 28.
Trooper Cenescar lost his life after his cruiser left Interstate 85 and collided with an embankment in Suwanee, a suburb of north Atlanta. The incident unfolded as Cenescar attempted to stop a motorcycle for a traffic violation, which led to a pursuit. The motorcyclist, identified as Gerson Ayala Rodriguez, was subsequently arrested and faces charges including felony murder, first-degree homicide, felony fleeing and attempting to elude, and reckless driving. He was denied bond.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety and the entire state mourn the loss of Trooper First Class Chase Redner, honoring his dedicated service since September 2017. The tragic back-to-back incidents highlight the inherent risks faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty, prompting calls for support and prayers for the affected families and the broader law enforcement community.
