Shooting Incident Leaves Four Students Injured Outside Atlanta High School
In a distressing incident on Wednesday, four students were wounded as they exited Benjamin E. Mays High School in Atlanta, targeted by gunfire from a passing vehicle, as confirmed by the school district.
The shooting occurred at the lower campus parking lot shortly after the school’s dismissal, according to Atlanta Public Schools. Fortunately, none of the four victims sustained life-threatening injuries, as reported by the district. Swift responses from the Atlanta Public Schools Police Department and Atlanta Fire Rescue led to the immediate transportation of all victims to the hospital.
A district statement assured that no other students, faculty, or staff were harmed in the incident. As a precautionary measure, all scheduled events at the school were canceled. The authorities are actively investigating the shooting, with the school district’s police department taking the lead in the case.
Emphasizing the utmost priority on the safety and security of students and staff, the district stated, “The safety and security of our students and staff are paramount.”
Details regarding the description of the vehicle used in the shooting were not immediately provided by authorities. Notably, this incident follows a previous shooting near the school campus in May, where a 16-year-old lost their life. However, that incident occurred outside of regular school hours during an unauthorized gathering.
