Tina Knowles Condemns Online Criticism of Beyoncé’s Film Premiere Appearance
In response to the recent wave of online criticism targeting Beyoncé’s complexion and style choices at the premiere of her Renaissance World Tour concert film, Tina Knowles, the mother of the iconic singer, took to Instagram to address the issue.
The 69-year-old Knowles shared a video montage of Beyoncé throughout the years, particularly emphasizing a picture from the Los Angeles premiere. The Grammy winner donned a custom silver chainmail gown by Versace, paired with silver opera gloves and heeled sandals, along with platinum blonde hair styled in a sleek middle part.
In her Instagram post, Knowles strongly refuted accusations that her daughter was “lightening her skin” or trying to emulate a white woman. She highlighted the theme of the film, “the renaissance,” which featured a silver carpet and suggested silver attire, explaining that Beyoncé’s styling choices were a deliberate fashion statement.
Knowles expressed frustration with the negative comments, calling them a “stupid narrative with hate and jealousy.” She addressed the absurdity of the accusations, stating, “Duh, she wore silver hair to match her silver dress as a fashion statement clown. . ALIEN Superstar duh!”—referencing one of Beyoncé’s songs from her latest studio album.

Moreover, Knowles claimed that a white woman from TMZ reached out to one of Beyoncé’s hairstylists for a statement on the matter, further fueling the controversy.
The Instagram post garnered widespread support, with actress Octavia Spencer praising Knowles for raising “beautiful, strong, intelligent black, PROUD TO BE BLACK women.” Other comments included support from Cynthia Erivo and Knowles’ grandson, Daniel Julez J. Smith Jr.
Knowles concluded her post expressing her weariness of people attacking her daughter, highlighting Beyoncé’s positive contributions, stating, “minds her own business … helps people whenever she can … lifts up & promotes black women and underdogs at all times.”
The comments from various personalities echoed sentiments of support and resilience against unwarranted criticism.
