Actor Khalid Abdalla takes on the role of Dodi Fayed, Princess Diana’s boyfriend who died with her in a car accident in 1997 in the new season of The Crown , Variety reports .

Forty-year-old Abdalla, known for roles in The Kite Runner , United 93 and Green Zone , will star in The Crown along with Elizabeth Debicki ( Tenet , The Great Gatsby ). It was previously announced that she will take over the role of Princess Diana in the fifth season from Emma Corrin, who played Diana in season four.

An actor has also been found for the role of Dodi’s father, Mohamed Al Fayed. Salim Dau, who was seen in Oslo earlier this year , will play the former Harrods owner.

The cast of The Crown was awarded several times during the Emmy Awards ceremony last weekend. For example, Olivia Colman received the Emmy for Best Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II and Josh Connor received the Best Actor award for his role as Prince Charles. Gillian Anderson won the Supporting Actress category for her role as Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

The end of the fourth season of the British royal family series was set in the early 1990s, during the lead-up to the divorce of Charles and Diana. The Crown will end after the sixth season. It is not yet clear how far into the present the series will continue.
