Texan Man Arrested and Charged for Alleged Stalking of Shakira at Miami Beach Residence
Miami Beach, FL – In a disturbing turn of events, a 56-year-old man from El Paso, Texas, named Daniel John Valtier, has been apprehended and charged with stalking and defrauding after reportedly stalking international pop sensation Shakira at her residence in Miami Beach.
The incident unfolded on Monday when intelligence detectives collaborated with the security director assigned to the renowned Colombian singer, currently residing in Miami Beach. According to an arrest affidavit obtained by CBS News Miami, the security director presented compelling evidence, including two recordings and numerous social media posts attributed to Valtier.
Among the concerning posts, Valtier allegedly claimed to be “married” to Shakira and hinted at plans to start a business with her. Disturbingly, he also claimed to have a “relationship” with the singer’s children, disclosing their names and Shakira’s personal details. These posts were allegedly made between December 30, 2023, and January 2, 2024.
Further aggravating the situation, Valtier reportedly sent packages containing wine bottles, chocolates, and toys to Shakira’s residence. The singer and her security team confronted Valtier, urging him to cease sending gifts and spreading false information about her personal life. Shakira expressed concerns to the police, emphasizing that she had no knowledge of Valtier and was troubled by how he obtained her private information.
On January 3, Shakira’s security director discovered a post featuring a business card linked to the Rodeway Inn in Bonifay, Florida, raising alarms as Valtier resides in Texas and had publicly declared his intention to visit the singer’s home in Florida.
In the early hours of Monday, police responded to an off-duty officer’s report of a person of interest, identified as Valtier, near Shakira’s property. The individual was detained, and investigations revealed that Valtier had allegedly not paid a taxi fare of $70.05. When questioned, Valtier claimed that someone residing in Shakira’s home was supposed to cover the cost, a statement refuted by the taxi driver.
Valtier’s refusal to pay led to his arrest, and during his appearance in Miami-Dade bond court on Tuesday, the judge ordered him to stay away from Shakira. However, Valtier defiantly insisted that Shakira was his “wife.” He is currently held in jail on a $100,000 bond. The unsettling case serves as a stark reminder of the challenges celebrities face regarding privacy and security.
