Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas Reach Resolution in Custody Dispute
In a recent legal development, “Game of Thrones” actress Sophie Turner and musician Joe Jonas have successfully settled a case that saw Turner suing Jonas over allegations of withholding their two daughters amid their divorce proceedings.
According to court documents obtained by USA TODAY, lawyers for both parties jointly requested the dismissal of the federal lawsuit before a U.S. district judge in New York. The judge subsequently approved the consent order on Wednesday, officially bringing an end to Turner’s case.
The legal filings in the southern district of New York revealed that a U.K. court had approved a consent order submitted by Turner and Jonas, outlining a parenting plan that addresses the custody aspects of their situation.
Representatives for Jonas and Turner have been approached by USA TODAY for comments on this development.
The resolution comes nearly four months after Turner’s initial lawsuit, where she accused Jonas of withholding their children’s passports and preventing their return to England, Turner’s home country. The couple shares a 3-year-old daughter named Willa and a second daughter born in July 2022, whose name has not been disclosed.
In a statement on September 21, Jeff Raymond, a representative for Jonas, explained that the former couple had a cordial meeting in New York, and the children have been with Turner since then. Jonas argued that complying with Turner’s request to allow the children to go to England would violate a Florida court order.
Turner’s lawsuit followed Jonas filing for divorce in Miami, and in October, the ex-couple reached a temporary custody agreement specifying the dates each parent would have the children. The agreement allowed temporary travel with the children to the United Kingdom or any U.S. state during their allotted time.
