TORONTO | A woman was killed and 13 people were injured, including a child who is in critical condition, during a shootout on Sunday night. The shooter is dead, confirmed the authorities.
The shots were fired in the middle of the street at around 10 pm near the intersection of Danforth and Logan avenues in the Greektown area. Witnesses say they heard 10 to 20 shots.
At a press briefing early in the night, Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders confirmed the death of a young woman and reported that 13 others had been shot. Among the victims, a girl, aged between 8 and 9, is in critical condition.
The police set up a security perimeter.
Toronto is undermined by gun attacks. According to the Toronto police, more incidents involving shooting have been recorded since the beginning of the year, while there were only 177 in 2014, 288 in 2015, 407 in 2016 and 395 in 2017.
