Actor Willie Garson passed away on Tuesday at the age of 57, People reports . He was best known for his role as Stanford Blatch in Sex and the City and the movies of the same name.
He died after a short illness surrounded by his family. It is not known what the actor suffered from.
Garson began his career in the 1980s with guest roles on Family Ties and Cheers . Between 1998 and 2004 he appeared in nearly thirty episodes of Sex and the City as Stanford, the best friend of Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker). He played that role again in the two films that were made of the series.
This spring, HBO announced that Garson had also signed on to revival series And Just Like That , which is currently being filmed in New York. It is not clear whether the actor had already completed his shooting.
Garson was also seen in the series White Collar , Hawaii Five-O and John from Cincinnati .
Garson’s son Nathen posted a tribute to his father on Instagram on Tuesday . “I love you daddy so much. Rest in peace and I’m so glad you could share all your adventures with me and we could achieve so much together. (..) I’m so proud of you.”

Garson Tweeted earlier this month saying “BE KIND TO EACH OTHER……ALWAYS. LOVE TO ALL. APRROACH KINDNESS.”
Many tributes flooded the internet on social media on the death of Garson, it was tweeted by Mario Cantone
“I couldn’t have had a more brilliant TV partner,” Cantone wrote, sharing a snap of the two. “I’m devastated and just overwhelmed with Sadness. Taken away from all of us way soon. You were a gift from the gods. Rest my sweet friend. I love you.”
