The man who injured six people with a stabbing weapon at the ‘Gare du Nord’ station in Paris on Wednesday morning was taken into custody that same evening for attempted murder. This has been announced by the Paris prosecutor’s office.
After two police officers opened fire on the twenty-something, he was hit twice in the chest and once in the arm. He was then taken to hospital injured and operated on, but now his state of health would allow him to be placed in custody.
Shortly before 6:45 am, the young man allegedly attacked a first victim with his weapon shortly before 6:45 am in the station building in the French capital, prosecutor Laure Beccuau said. That victim would have been hit about twenty times. He used “a metal hook whose longest part ends in a point”.
Six people were ultimately injured: three women (aged 40, 47 and 53), two men (aged 36 and 41) and a 46-year-old police officer who works at the border police station at the station.
The police are currently verifying the identity of the perpetrator, but he “could” have been born in Algeria or Libya. “The exact identification is in progress, the person concerned is listed with different identities in the automated database of digital impressions, based on his statements in previous proceedings,” said Beccuau.
