Rihanna finds putting together the set for her performance at the Super Bowl halftime show by far the hardest part of her upcoming comeback. The 34-year-old singer promises that her entire oeuvre will be featured during the show.
“It was hard to cut all that down to thirteen minutes”
“It was hard to cut all that down to thirteen minutes,” Rihanna said at a special press conference on Thursday. “You’re trying to cram seventeen years of work into those thirteen minutes, but I think we did a pretty good job.”
According to Rihanna, almost forty different setlists were created. “We are now on the 39th. Every change has an impact, whether I want to leave or add a guitar or remove an entire song.”
The performance is Rihanna’s first major appearance in about seven years. She initially doubts whether she should do it, since she became a mother last year. “The question of whether I wanted to give the halftime show came three months after I gave birth,” says the singer. “I thought to myself: is this the right time to make such big decisions? But in hindsight it was perfect. I think that being a mother has given me the strength to take on this challenge.”
This year’s Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles is one of America’s biggest television moments each year. Over the years, the biggest stars performed during the intermission show.
